Aqualinks Technologies develops specialized coastal prediction systems for the water, power and oil industries. Its integrated software toolkit preidcts water levels, wave heights, water temperature, currents and contaminant transport for oceans and lakes. This information can be used to protect critical marine infrastructures, assist search and rescue operations, facilitate emergency planning, and enhance navigation safety.

Avantec
Avantec manufactures and sells antimicrobial and sanitation products based on dry-media chlorine dioxide technology. The company’s proprietary devices deliver precise quantities of chlorine dioxide for applications in the food, water purification, health care, consumer products and indoor air quality industries. Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is the most versatile biocide compound available today for destroying pathogens commonly found in the environment today. The First Fifty Fund is an investor in Avantec.

Boxicom
Boxicom is developing a patent pending backup appliance which is designed to displace the existing tape solutions typically found in small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs). The solution is designed to back up large amounts of data to an off-site location over common Internet broadband connections such as DSL and cable. The technology is designed to create extremely efficient backup images by transferring the actual changes in data at block or byte level over the Internet. Our solution also automatically moves the data offsite and achieves one of the principal requirements of a sound disaster recovery plan.

CallCopy, Inc.

CallCopy offers a feature rich contact center recording system including telephony recording, desktop screen capture, customized recording schedules, and call logging. The mission of CellSignals is to design and synthesize new therapeutic agents for the treatments of catastrophic diseases such as malaria, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer. The company's is using proprietary bio-organic chiral technologies to develop biologically active compounds with signaling function in proliferation, apoptosis, and survival of human cells.

Clevex
CleveX develops and sells skin biopsy, closure and repair solutions that markedly improve patient outcomes and enhance practice economics for dermatology, cosmetic surgery and primary care physicians. The company’s flagship product, the ExiClip, eliminates the tedious and time-consuming surgery and suture approach currently used by medical professionals to remove skin lesions and significantly improves patient outcomes. The technology was developed by surgeons at The Cleveland Clinic and is fully owned by CleveX.

DIRAmed LLC
DIRAmed LLC is developing an innovative platform technology in the medical diagnostic industry. With DIRAmed’s technology a device that performs totally non-invasive assays of blood chemistries appears feasible. Using proprietary analysis techniques we expect to overcome obstacles to previous attempts at developing spectroscopic based non-invasive instruments. We have established a Non-Invasive Development Laboratory.

InVasc Therapeutics
InVasc Therapeutics, Inc. is dedicated to reducing Cardiovascular Disease through the proprietary synthesis and commercial development of novel anti-atherosclerosis compounds with simultaneous applicability in atherosclerosis-associated conditions such as hypertension, metabolic syndrome, thrombosis and aging. InVasc is seeking to establish itself as an innovative niche company focusing on anti-atherosclerosis pharmaceutical agents. MetaMateria Partners

Morgenix, LLC
Morgenix, LLC was founded in 2005 as a result of the acquisition of the Senplex™ materials technology for non-automotive applications from DuPont Corporation. Senplex™ is a metal-oxide technology that is utilized in the construction of sensors that are capable of suppporting multiple analytes and under severe operating conditions. Markets for the Senplex™ technology include industrial, military and homeland security applications. Morgenix, LLC also works as a development partner with other companies that have licensed the Senplex™ technology for automotive applications from DuPont.

NanoStatics
NanoStatics LLC is a new company started in November, 2005. The NanoStatics business is based around two core technologies. First, is the development of high throughput electrohydrodynamic spinning systems, or electrospinning to produce nanofibers at very high production rates. These nanofibers can be electrospun directly on to a surface or can be spun into a mat or membrane. Our second core is the development of engineered nanofibers using low environmental impact chemistry. We call this Green Spinning™.

We have created enabling technologies that will significantly lower the cost and environmental impact of making nanomaterials. NanoStatics designs and builds electrospinning systems, develops innovative nanofiber materials technology and has pilot scale prototyping capability.

OncoImmune
OncoImmune, Ltd. is developing novel therapeutics for cancer and multiple sclerosis through research in functional genomics, immunology and oncology. This biotechnology company focuses on developing innovative concepts from a strong portfolio of proprietary research by its four founders, Drs. Yang Liu, Pan Zheng, Kunliang Guan and Ming You, prominent scientists from The Ohio State University and the University of Michigan. The BTC will provide OncoImmune with an incubation environment throughout its current research phase and its product development and pilot manufacturing phases.

Phylogeny
Phylogeny accelerates the discovery of new drugs by enabling scientists to achieve excellence in functional genomic research. Scientists come to Phylogeny for help in determining the function of various genes involved in diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s disease. Phylogeny provides a state-of-the-art experimental service called in- situ hybridization that is customized to the needs of each client. In addition to providing research services, Phylogeny is launching a new product-based business unit that is selling arrays, which can be used by researchers to screen a large number of patient samples simultaneously for expression of a particular gene or protein. Plannet is a software and services company focused on providing network security and performance solutions that protect data, systems and information according to industry best practices and procedures. SensIrOx
SensIrOx offers unique electrochemical sensors to meet significant unaddressed needs in the laboratory, industrial process control, and medical device markets. Its technology, developed by The Ohio State University, is based on a proprietary process for growing an iridium oxide film via the oxidation of an iridium wire in a carbonate melt. The resulting sensor exhibits superior stability when compared to today’s commercially available devices. The company’s first product is a pH electrode able to outperform other products on the market. Following the successful commercialization of the initial sensor, the company will introduce derivative products with integrated sensors to measure carbon dioxide, urea, glucose, and other analytes. The First Fifty Fund is an investor in the company.
